As I’d mentioned in previous blogs there is dental equipment that I sent from Seattle to the Albert Schweitzer Hospital (HAS) in July. This included a dental chair, patient light and delivery system (to run the drills and suction). My goal was to update the aging equipment in the dental clinic at HAS. Allison and I traveled to Haiti the night of October 12th and arrived in Port-au-Prince the afternoon of the 13th. We stayed at our favorite hotel, The Olaffson and the next day traveled to the hospital in Deschapelles.
For the past 13 years I’ve been making trips to the Albert Schweitzer Hospital in Haiti. The dental clinic at the hospital has always been poorly equipped and didn’t allow me to provide some restorative procedures that could save teeth. Three weeks ago I found some good used dental equipment at a warehouse in Tacoma. I purchased a dental chair, light and delivery system. This will allow me to have compressed air, suction and water – all the things that are crucial for filling teeth.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with our annual picnic, I’ll explain. For the past 12 summers we’ve had a party for all our patients and ask them to bring their dog(s), if they have one. It’s become quite popular with paitents asking throughout the year when the dog party is happening. It was extremely hot yesterday. I’m sure it got up to 95 degrees. But, that was perfect for our Dogs, Dogs, Dogs party. We started at noon on the grass next to the office and served up our usual ribs and chicken with all the sides. We provided plenty of shade and lots of water for the dogs.
